Ramblers Cymru have launched an innovative mobile app designed to “help people to stick to those New Year’s Resolutions and walk their way to health.” Designed to take people from their tentative first steps in their new outdoor clothing to more “heart-raising routes”, the Big Welsh Walking Challenge app will be launched on 27th January. The idea is that every week, over a twelve-week period, walkers are set a challenge, which will start gentle, moving onto more challenging and arduous routes. Walk Your Way to Health Whilst many New Year’s resolutions do not last much past the middle of January, this app is designed to spur people onto making a longer-term commitment to health by providing new and varied ideas that remain challenging over twelve weeks. Supported by Sport Wales, the app will help people build their fitness in anticipation of the Big Welsh Coastal Walk, timed to coincide with the opening of the Wales Coast Path on 5th May. When the path opens in May, Wales will become the first country in the world to have a complete coastal path. Technological Reminders According to Angela Charlton, director of Ramblers Cymru, their brand new mobile app is a “great way for people to stick to their New Year’s Resolutions and get that little bit healthier.” Tapping into the nation’s love of gadgets and hiking in the great outdoors, and providing timely reminders to people that they should be getting active should help to keep people motivated. |
