As the sun has set on 2011 and the last of the festive celebrations have been completed, thoughts tend to drift towards resolutions. As many of us will know, the vast majority of resolutions have been broken or ignored by the middle of January, as the status quo is resumed. One of the best ways to use the good intentions of a resolution to your advantage is to set yourself a challenge. The Three Peaks Challenge, held in mid-July by cancer charity Breast Cancer Campaign, is one such challenge that will require a big commitment to your fitness, as well as making a big difference to people suffering from cancer. Contender, Ready! Participants in the three peaks challenge are charged with climbing the three highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland in 24 hours. The route takes in 24 miles of some of the toughest terrain in Great Britain, as well as ascending and descending over 10,000 feet. Completing the challenge will require more than just your outdoor clothing; great motivation, team work and physical endurance, with a strict training regime vital to a successful attack of the route. Make a Change Making a change in your own lifestyle is laudable enough, but doing so to benefit others is truly amazing. Kelly Walton, a spokesperson for Breast Cancer Campaign commented, “This could be the perfect challenge to help you achieve your New Year goals, whether you have resolved to get fit, lose weight or be more adventurous in 2012.” |
