Huge investment into the county of Conwy is set to turn it into the top extreme sports destination of Wales. A £1.5 million grant courtesy of the European Regeneration Fund was recently announced, which is intended to market a range of high velocity outdoor pursuits. According to Destination Conwy, the group behind the project, the area is attracting water sports fanatics, mountain bikers and rock climbers. The county already boasts a 25 per cent share of all of Wales’s tourist revenue, generating an annual income of £560 million.

Get Out and Get Active

All thrill seekers are encouraged to don their outdoor clothing and head to the region to experience thrills and spills, as these existing activities are consolidated and new options explored. The new projects brought in because of the European funding are set to boost the reputation of the county as a hub of outdoor pursuits. Jim Jones, head of coastal community development in Conwy, expressed his excitement at securing the investment, saying that it was an “extremely exciting time for Conwy county, we want to make it the extreme sports capital of Wales.”

All Bases Covered

The local geography is well suited to a range of different activities, as Jones explained, “we can virtually deal with every outdoor sport in this county. We have got fantastic natural landscape, mountains and the countryside.” From kite surfing to yacht sailing and every other water-based activity in between, Conwy’s “Adrenaline Coast” is calling.
